A former chairperson of the Special Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Property Property, (SPIP), Okoi Obono-Obla, has been accused by the chairman of ICPC, Bolaji Owasanoye, of stirring public sentiments over his indictment for alleged fraud.
Owasanoye on Thursday, November 7, in Abuja at a town hall meeting on the fight against corruption, organised by the ministry of information and culture, dismissed Okoi Obono-Obla’s allegations that he was being persecuted by the office of the vice president over his dedication to the anti-graft war. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ICPC chairman said Okoi Obono-Obla’s claims were an attempt to cover up the allegations against him. Owasanoye said the proper thing for any accused person to do is to come out and say he did not do what he is accused of. The ICPC chairman noted that anything other than that is improper. The ICPC boss said that such behaviour was common among politically exposed persons accused of wrongdoing.
