Residents scamper as another fuel tanker explodes in Onitsha
Residents scampered for safety in the morning of Friday, October 18, as another fuel tanker reportedly exploded along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway by Bessoy filling station in Anambra state, according to a report by The Nation.
The incident, the report said, occurred around Omaba Phase 2. It was learnt that the tanker was loaded with premium motor spirit, also known as petrol and was said to have fallen on the middle of the road spilling its content which flowed into drainages. The report said some residents close to the area where the fuel tanker fell fled their homes over fear of a repetition of the of an incident that occurred barely 48 hours earlier. At the time of this report, no casualty had been recorded or reported in the incident that was confirmed by the commissioner of police in the state, John Abang. “This time around the fire service responded well after they were contacted by my men, the commissioner said. The incident is coming just after an inferno, which occurred from a fuel tanker explosion at the Upper Iweka and Ochanja market, led to the destruction of lives and properties worth millions of naira.
