Some soldiers have been accused of killing two people in Isheri Olofin, a border town between Lagos and Ogun state, The soldiers were accused by the Ogun state police command, who said the incident happened on Monday, August 12.

The commissioner said that the command received credible information regarding what happened when the indigenes of Isheri Olofin were celebrating their annual Isheri Day. According to Makama, four men of the Nigerian Army believed to be from Ikeja cantonment and posted to Kara market, left their duty post and went to Isheri Olofin, a border town between Lagos and Ogun state where the indigenes of the town were celebrating Isheri Day. The commissioner said that the soldiers had a minor disagreement with some youths, which made the soldiers shoot sporadically into the air.  One Damilare was said to have been hit by bullets and died on the spot. This was said to have infuriated the people at the scene who in turn reacted violently against the soldiers. One soldier and three civilians were injured in the process. According to the commissioner, the soldiers quickly rushed their injured colleague to a hospital where they met one of the injured civilians being attended to by a medical doctor on duty.    The officials of the hospital allegedly said that the soldiers ordered the doctor at gunpoint to leave the injured man and attend to their colleague. The injured man was said to have been dragged out of the bed by soldiers, who allegedly shot him with a bayonet attached to the muzzle of a rifle. The commissioner said that a full scale investigation has been launched.
