Boko Haram: Presidency reacts to video of aid workers begging for rescue
The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has reacted to a viral video showing a female aid worker and five male colleagues, kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram fighters. Shehu, in a series of tweets on Thursday night, disclosed that the victims’ abductors were being engaged.
The Presidency has been briefed by the responsible government agency about the disturbing video showing our citizens, the humanitarian aid workers held captive. Beside these aid workers, there are some others about whom this engagement is about-Leah Sharibu, a religious leader and all the others. Presidency has been given assurances that contact is being made and the captors are being talked to,” he wrote. According to an aid group, Action Against Hunger, one of its staff members along with three health workers and two drivers were missing, after their convoy was attacked on Thursday last week. In a three-minute video, the woman said she was the abducted aid worker and identified the five others with her as her colleagues. She claimed Alice and ‘Leah’ were killed after the Nigerian Government failed to act.
