Police arrest driver for allegedly strangulating boss’ wife to death in Oyo
Men of the Oyo State Police command on Friday paraded a 37-year old driver identified as Morenikeji Adeyemi for allegedly strangulating his former employer’s wife to death. It was gathered that Adeyemi after allegedly killing his boss’ wife, Oyewumi Ayanwale, consequently made away with her vehicle.
Commissioner of Police in the State, Shina Olukolu, while parading the suspect and other suspects arrested in connection with several criminal offence said the suspect, Adeyemi was arrested at Sango Ota in Ogun state where he had relocated to after committing the crime. Adeyemi who was arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping squad of the state police, however, claimed that he committed the crime because his boss sacked him after working with him for four years. Adeyemi while speaking with journalists said that he was able to lure the victim, under the pretense of taking her for prayers. He said, “I was hurt when my boss sacked me. That time, my wife just had her baby and because there was no income anymore, we lost the baby. So, I thought of a way to get back at him. Because it was so painful. My boss’ wife had once told me about her spiritual challenges, and I had promised to take a to a place for prayers. I was able to use that as a premise to lure her and I told her that I was taking her to a place Awe along Awe/Oyo road. We took her car and along the way, she said she was pressed, so, she went into the bush, I followed her and strangulated her by the river in the bush. I then took her vehicle and ran away, before I was arrested two weeks ago. Also paraded on Friday was a group of 12 suspects who allegedly attacked a police team that was responding to a distress call. The suspects were alleged to have vandalized the Police Hilux vehicle and inflicted severe machete cuts on one ASP Akintola Wakili who led the police team.
