Interns At Rivers State University Teaching Hospital Protest Over Unpaid Salary

Interns at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (Formerly Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital) decided to take the streets of Portharcourt in protest of seven months unpaid salary. They were seen dressed in their ward coats carrying placards with varying inscriptions all calling on the Rivers State Government to quickly come to their aid and pay them their salaries that has accumulated to seven months. The Protesters that included House officers, Pharmacists, and Medical Lab scientists have worked for seven months and have not been paid a dime, and knowing that internship is a one year programme, they have just 5 months to go. Some of the protesters were bitter that they have been taking transport to work on borrowed funds, others find it difficult to feed while others don't even have funds to rent an accommodation and have to squat with friends under embarrassing conditions. This is a call to the Governor Wike Led Rivers State Government to come to the aid of these young health workers and ensure they receive their alerts so that with a sound mind, they can take care of their patients.
