A suspected letter bomb sent to the home of billionaire businessman George Soros have been safely destroyed, with the FBI now investigating the incident.
The package which had been sent to the New York home of the businessman was discovered on Monday morning by an employee who quickly alerted the police authorities before taking it to a nearby wooded area.
An official of the Bedford Police Department told the New York Times, "An employee of the residence opened the package, revealing what appeared to be an explosive device".
Soros, a constant target for right-wing conspiracy theorists and websites' accusations, was not at his home in the town of Bedford in Westchester County at the time of the incident, according to reports.
The 88-year-old Hungarian-American businessman is a big supporter of liberal causes and has spent billions funding human rights projects and liberal democratic ventures around the world as well as being a large donor to the US Democratic Party.
