Top U.S. House Democrat ousted by 28-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in primary elections

Serving House Democrat, Joe Crowley has lost his re-election bid, losing out to a 28-year-old activist in the New York primary elections. His defeat, a first for an incumbent democrat this primary season could lead to an intra-party division due to a widening divide between the party's pragmatic and more liberal sides.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who worked in the campaign of of former presidential candidate created the huge upset despite being underfunded.
Crowley had been widely tipped to replace Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi.
Born in New York's Bronx, Ocasio-Cortez -whose campaign cast Crowley as an elitist- said she knew she could connect with the district, which includes Queens and part of the Bronx.
"This race is about people versus money. We've got people, they've got money," Ocasio-Cortez said in biographical web ad that followed her through mundane New York life, dressing for work, walking, changing into high heels on the subway platform.
"Women like me aren't supposed to run for office."
In an interview with the Associated Press news agency, she said, "The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver."
"I live in this community. I organised in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn't have a strong presence."
Trump, meanwhile celebrated Crowley's defeat on twitter.
"Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!" Trump tweeted, oddly taking credit for a victory by a candidate more liberal than Crowley.
He added: "The Democrats are in Turmoil!"
