Paris attacks suspect sentenced to prison for 20-years in Brussels trial

A Belgian judge on Monday sentenced Salah Abdeslam -the sole surviving suspect from the 2015 Paris attacks- to 20 years over a gunfight with police which led to his arrest in Brussels in 2016.
Abdeslam was on-the-run for four months following the 2015 attacks in Paris. Belgian police hunting Abdeslam carried out a raid in the Forest area of Brussels after targeting a flat they believed the suspect had been hiding.
The police came under fire by the three occupants, leaving three officers injured and one of the three killed, though Abdeslam and the other occupant, Sofien Ayari, escaped.
He was later arrested days later.
Abdeslam and Ayari, a co-defendant, were found guilty of attempted terrorist murder. They both are sentenced to 20-years in prison.
Abdeslam, who's currently being held in a jail in France, where he is due to face trial over the Paris attacks refused to attend the proceedings, according to his lawyers, who argued the 28-year-old should be acquitted because of a procedural error.
Sofien Ayari was also not in court as the verdict was read out.
The judge said that "there can be no doubt" about the two men's involvement with "radicalism
