Suspected herdsmen invade Kogi communities, at least 25 people killed

Suspected Fulani herdsmen are believed to have attacked three communities in Kogi state, killing at least 25 people. The communities, all in the Eastern Senatorial district of the state, are Oganienugwu and Ikende communities in Dekina LGA and Abejukolo in Omala LGA.
Reports says villagers residing in Obakume, Idirisu, and Oji Apata are all moving out over fear of possible attacks.
An eyewitness who spoke to PUNCHNG, said the attackers dressed in army uniform, tied their victims up before slaughtering them while those who tried escaping, received machete cuts. The source added that the villager were woken up the sound of gunshots.
Several houses were burnt to the grown and others destroyed during the attack. They said the gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles had visited mayhem on the villagers in their farms before returning in the night around 1am while villagers slept.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Monday Bala confirmed that reports of the incident have gotten to the command and the actual casualty figure is yet to be known.
Bala added that police personnel from the command as well as those from the armed forces have been sent to deal with the situation, noting that his men are in total control of the situation.
