Following the warm relations between North and South Korea achieved as a result of the Olympic games, South Korea is sending a delegation to North Korea with the aim of restarting dialogue between Pyongyang and the US, amongst other issues. 

The South's delegation travelling to Pyongyang for the rare talks between both nation includes two minister-level envoys - intelligence chief Suh Hoon and National Security advisor Chung Eui-yong.  

In a press briefing prior to their departure for Pyongyang, Mr. Chung said he would deliver President Moon Jae-in's "resolution to maintain the dialogue and improvement in relations between the South and the North... [and] to denuclearize the Korean peninsula".

"I plan to hold in-depth discussions on various ways to continue talks between not only the South and the North, but also the North and the United States," he added.

While South Korea hope to open a dialogue between the US and North Korea, both country are in a battle of words as North Korea have described as absurd, the US adding conditions before any proposed dialogue would take place.

This follows remarks by US President Donald Trump on Saturday, when he said that the US would be prepared to meet North Korea, only when Pyongyang has denuclearize. 

North Korea's foreign ministry in a statement, released through the country's state media said: "The US attitude shown after we clarified our intention for dialogue compels us to only think that the US is not interested in resuming... dialogue."

If such a meeting should happen, it is not clear who might represent the US after Joseph Yun, the top US diplomat on North Korea announced his decision to retire earlier last week.
