The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has continued it reforms of granting access to more activities that were previously banned. The latest been permitting women to enlist in the army.

Women can now apply for positions with the rank of soldier in the provinces of Riyadh, Mecca, al-Qassim and Medina provided they are Saudi citizens and aged between 25 and 35 with a high school diploma.

The women who apply, must also reside in the same provinces as the job's location with their male guardians, usually husband, father, brother or son, under the Saudi Arabia's guardianship system.

This recruitment of female soldiers is just the latest in a series of reforms aimed at enhancing women's rights. The country has already announced that women will be allowed to drive from June, and ride-hailing apps are getting prepared to hire female drivers.

In January, Saudi women were given permission to attend football matches and to open their own businesses without the consents of their male relatives while in this month, Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor's office said it would be recruiting women investigators for the first time.

140 positions for women has also been opened at airports and border crossings, a historic first that the government said drew 107,000 female applicants.
