Florida School Shooting Gunman Makes Second Court Apperance

Nikolas Cruz, the accused gunman of last week's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the deadliest ever at a US school, has returned to court on Monday, for hearing. He is facing 17 counts for premeditated murder.

Broward Circuit Court Judge, Elizabeth Scherer at the end of the hearing ruled that the motion filed by the defense last week, which was ordered sealed by another judge, should remain sealed from public.

In a second hearing, which the suspect did not attend, Judge Charles Greene ordered that parts of a mental health assessment done on Cruz in November 2016 by the Florida Department of Children and Families, be released.

Greene granted the request to release the assessment by Cruz's team of public defenders but did not go as far as allowing the release of details of Cruz's mental health history and child abuse records.

The assessment by the Department of Children and Families revealed that Cruz was investigated by authorities following a video of him cutting himself on Snapchat. "Mr. Cruz has fresh cuts on both his arms. Mr. Cruz stated he plans to go out and buy a gun. It is unknown what he is buying the gun for," the released report said.

Department Secretary, Mike Carrol in a statement said Cruz, who was still living with his mother during the period of the investigation, was getting mental health services before, during and after the assessment as pointed by the records. His mother passed away in November.
