Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has reportedly turned down a new contract with the club with his current contract set to expire by the end of this season.

Fellaini who signed a contract extension last season has been constantly reassured of his importance by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and it is still unclear how this will turn out.

The midfielder who currently earns around £120,000-per-week is reportedly eyeing a significant increase as this might be his last career opportunity to negotiate a raise.

Jose Mourinho has however expressed his concerns about Fellaini's contract situation further expressing his desire to have the player in the club.

"He's an important player for me - a lot more important than you can imagine," said the Portuguese following the 2-2 draw to Stoke City.

"I feel weaker without Fellaini in my squad, doesn't matter if it's on the pitch or on the bench. If his conditions are improved, he will be selected, I need him."

And just last month, Mourinho admitted he was concerned about the 29-year-old's future, given his contract expires next summer.

"I'm worried about Fellaini and not about Luke Shaw because Fellaini finishes his contract and Luke Shaw doesn't."
