- Sentences her to five years in jail.

- Yingluck Shinawatra is currently in hiding.
Former Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra has been found guilty of corruption in the form of negligence in a rice subsidy case and sentenced in absentia to five years in jail.

"The court found that the defendant is guilty as charged...the court has sentenced her to five years in prison and the court also unanimously agreed that the sentence will not be suspended," the judge said.

Although the maximum penalty for this act of negligence is ten years, the court failed to provide any explanations as to why the former Prime Minister was only sentenced to five years behind bars.

The Supreme Court initially scheduled the reading of the sentencing for August 25th but the accused former Prime Minister failed to turn up in court.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha told reporters before the verdict that he knew where Yingluck was but would not give more details.
