- Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan threatens to cut off oil supply to Kurdish Region in Norther Iraq.
- Kurdish independence referendum can lead to ethnic and separatist conflicts in Iraq.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) that their actions in conducting the independence referendum could lead to ethnic and separatist conflicts which will become a national security issue for Turkey.
Erdogan also threatened to take measures against the Kurdish Region if they attempted to break out of Iraq.
"If [Iraqi Kurd leader Masoud] Barzani and the Kurdish Regional Government do not go back on this mistake as soon as possible, they will go down in history with the shame of having dragged the region into an ethnic and sectarian war," Erdogan said.
The Turkish Prime Minister further threatened to apply an oil embargo and cut off food supply from the Norther Iraqi region.
"It will be over when we close the oil taps, all [their] revenues will vanish, and they will not be able to find food when our trucks stop going to northern Iraq," Erdogan said.
