Leicester City still attempting to sign Adrien Silva outside transfer window

- Leicester City agreed a deal to sign Adrien Silva from Sporting Lisbon.

- FIFA rejected the move.

- Leicester city remain hopeful.
After selling Drinkwater to Chelsea, it was expected that Leicester City Football Club's announcement of signing a replacement player was imminent.

However, no announcements came leaving many to question their ambition for the 2017/2018 EPL season.

Reports have now confirmed that Leicester City had already agreed on a £22 million deadline day deal for 28 year old Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva and were awaiting a final clearance from FIFA before making the official announcement for the deal.

Reports coming from Portugal suggests that the deal was rejected by FIFA making it impossible for the player to make the switch.

It was the Foxes confidence in sealing the deal before the 11PM deadline on August 31st that allowed Danny Drinkwater complete his switch to Chelsea.

A Leicester spokesman said: "We are working with Adrien and Sporting Clube de Portugal to overcome some issues relating to the player's registration and exploring all options to find a resolution."

Drinkwater was announced as a Chelsea player at 1:30 a.m. Sept. 1 but because Silva is an international transfer, Leicester have been waiting on clearance to announce the deal.

Sporting said at the time in a statement: "Sporting Club de Portugal... informs the market that we have reached an agreement with Leicester City Football Club for the definitive transfer of the sporting and economic rights of the professional soccer player Adrien Silva. The registration of the same [player] is awaiting confirmation of FIFA."
