- Some Nigerians pay up to N40,000.
- Official Price is N19,500.00 for adults and 10,500 for Minors and elderly
- NIS discourages tout patronage.
Comptroller Adebowale Idowu of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has come out to warn Nigerians looking to apply for International Passports to avoid doing so through touts or third parties.
In a chat with Journalists at the Osogbo Immigration Office, the Comptroller cleared the air regarding the true cost of Nigerian passports as he stated that rather than the N40,000.00 that most Nigerians have become accustomed to paying, the official cost of a Nigerian Passport is N19,500.00.
Idowu said "People who patronise the touts would be accusing Nigeria Immigration Service of collecting exorbitant amount for passport whereas the money was paid to the touts, not the NIS.

"We have been appealing to applicants to come directly to our office and get the passport at the appropriate amount," he said, asserting, "if any of our officials collect money wrongly from applicants, such officer would be seriously dealt with. If you have evidence against any Immigration officer that collects money illegally from applicants, please, inform us and we shall deal with such officer."
The Osogbo office also confirmed that the official price of the passport for minors and those aged over 60 years is N10,500.
When Obiaks News spoke to some previous applicants, some were of the opinion that the "touts" offerred a better and quicker service in getting the passports compared to going directly to official channels. Some of these applicants were able to obtain their passports in less than 24 hours and others within a few days compared to going directly to NIS which could take weeks and endless queuing.
what are your thoughts on the NIS and the process of obtaining a Nigerian Passport? Would you rather spend N19,500 or N40,000?
