Nigeria's Barkindo becomes OPEC's new Secretary General

OPEC has appointed Nigeria's Mohammed Barkindo, who is a Former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), as its Secretary General.
His appointment was announced in Vienna, Austria, on Thursday, June 2.
Barkindo, will replace former Secretary General, Libya's Abdalla El-Badri, who had previously completed full terms; but was re-appointed in December 2015 in an acting capacity,and asked to stay on till July.
Other candidates who were in the race included Ali Rodriguez Araque, who had been Secretary General in 2001-2002; and Indonesia's Mahendra Siregar.
The appointment requires full consensus of all OPEC members.
