Four people that were being held by their captors following last weeks school abduction in Cameroon have been released, journalist Peter Tah reports.


Though not confirmed, their release comes five days after 79 students and 1 adult were freed and abandoned in a building belonging to the Presbyterian Church of Cameroon in the town of Bafut, about 24 km (15 miles) from Bamenda.

Most of the students who had been kidnapped were preparing for their GCE O' Level exam.

The Cameroonian government have accused the Anglophone separatist movement of orchestrating the kidnapping, but the group points its finger to the government saying they might be behind the kidnapping to give the movement a bad name to the international community.

The separatist movement gathered pace in 2017 after a government crackdown on peaceful demonstrations forcing many to flee Bamenda and other centres to seek refuge in more peaceful Francophone regions.
