Fate of Zuma's presidency to be decided by ANC leaders
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the South Africa's ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), is expected to decide the fate of President Jacob Zuma, as they are due to meet later on Monday.
Zuma, has been facing several corruption charges over the course of his presidency. He had been able to weather the storm of accusations towards him but his removal became more apparent as his deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa, became president of the ANC.
Talks between Ramaphosa and Zuma, had led the NEC to call off last week's meeting as it is believed Mr. Zuma is negotiating the terms of his removal from office.
Ramaphosa in a rally to mark the 100 years since the birth of the country's first black president, Nelson Mandela, acknowledged that the ruling party is experiencing a period of discord and disunity. "As you have heard, the National Executive Committee of the ANC will be meeting tomorrow... and because our people want this matter to be finalized, the NEC will be doing precisely that" Mr. Ramaphosa told the crowd at the rally.
The ANC is thought to be taking its time to decide the fate of Zuma and how it'll be done as Zuma still has a lot of support in the country and they do not want known volatile regions that supports the South Africa's president, which became relatively calm due to Zuma's presidency, to erupt into violence.
