Police in Zamfara rescue kidnapped Nigerien citizen

Zamfara State police command says it has rescued a Nigerien citizen that was kidnapped by bandits from Niger Republic and brought to Nigeria.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the command was notified that a white Nigerien was seen on a motorcycle with gunmen along Zamfara – Sokoto border. As the information was received, armed policemen were deployed to comb the axis and into the forest to rescue him.” he said. He further stated that repentant bandits were used by the police to search for the kidnapped Nigerien citizen. Shehu noted that after two days of intensive search in the forest, the victim was discovered in the hands of the bandits and was rescued and brought to Gusau, the state capital. The state police spokesman explained that the victim who gave his name as Diddi Kadiri was rushed to hospital for medical examination and was declared healthy by the doctors. Police say the rescued victim will be taken back to his country to reunite with his family. According to Kadiri he was kidnapped in his hometown of Abalak in Tahoe state of Niger Republic. He however explained that though he was not treated badly by the bandits, he was not given good food. Kadiri revealed that the bandits had demanded N5m ransom for his release .
