Embattled Chelsea Doctor to Sue Mourinho

Calls had been made to Jose Mourinho to reinstate Eva Carneiro, but there are indications that the Portuguese is bent on resisting any call and move made by concerned bodies to reinstate the doctor.  Condemnations have been greeting the treatment meted out to the doctor from football enthusiasts and organizations around the world, but all concerns and expressions had been falling on deaf ears of the Chelsea Football Club coach.

Indications coming out in the wake of the Chelsea-Swansea City 2-2 draw last Saturday have shown that the two of them had been at each others throats more than once, but last Saturday’s event was the only one that hit the headlines with such vehemence. Lots of pressure was mounted on Jose Mourinho on Wednesday to reinstate the relegated doctor, but the former has decided to stick to his guns.

Things have reached an advanced stage to the extent that Roman Abramovich, the owner of the club had reacted negatively to the way the coach had treated the doctor; the owner of the club had out rightly condemned decision of Jose Mourinho to castigate a senior employee of the club on television and radio.

There are also indications that the doctor may sue Chelsea Football Club for the way the issue had been handled. There are indications that the doctor may also ask the club to tender public apology on the said issue. She plans to sue the club for constructive dismissal and this may turn out to be one of the biggest employment tribunals in history. This is setting Chelsea Football Club officials on the edge.

Doctors working on the team of other premier league clubs have also added their voices to condemn the coach’s decision. They have labeled the treatment meted out to the doctor as ‘unjust in the extreme’. Yet another senior personality in sports medicine has described the behaviors displayed by the coach regarding doctor Carneiro as ‘appalling’.

It would be recalled that José Mourinho had downgraded the position of the doctor on Sunday soon after the 2-2 draw against Swansea City. She was equally banned from visiting the team members in their hotels or ever attending training sessions with the team. Since the incident broke out, the coach’s decision had been greeted with criticism and condemnation all over and the support for the doctors had remained ever strong from the general public.

The part Roman Abramovich and other members of the Chelsea hierarchy hated most had to do with the decision of the coach to go on television and radio on a criticism spree of Dr Carneiro and Jon Fearn, the first-team physio.

Members of staff of the club seemed to have made up their minds to forget about the issue and move on after Mourinho had made his decisions, but the doctor does not seem to be towing that line. She feels the coach had questioned her professionalism and she is not in the mood to back down. Last season, the highly revered doctor had similar clash with the coach concerning the way Diego Costa’s recurring hamstring injury was managed.
