De Bruyne reveals what Pep Guardiola did to help them defeat Real Madrid

Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne has made it clear that Pep Guardiola's team selection against Real Madrid in the Champions League came as a surprise to all the players.

Manchester City who are the current champions of England defeated Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night, February 26, in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 duel. Pep Guardiola came out with a surprise starting eleven as the likes of Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and David Silva were all put on the bench. But his decision to put some of his most trusted soldiers on the bench paid off as the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez performed wonderfully well against Real Madrid. Spanish football star Isco gave Real Madrid the lead to the delight of the home fans before Gabriel Jesus' header gave Manchester City the equalizer. Both sides were looking for another goal before Daniel Carvajal brought down Raheem Sterling in the second half in which the referee had no choice than to give Manchester City a penalty. Kevin De Bruyne stepped forward to convert the penalty sending his fellow countryman Thibaut Courtois the wrong way for Manchester City to win 2-1. Bruyne explained according to the report on UK Mirror that Manchester City struggled against Real Madrid in the first 15 minutes of the game before they later got their rhythm. Meanwhile, the Citizens will now return to the Etihad stadium and be waiting for Real Madrid for the return leg in three weeks time. Troubled manager Zinedine Zidane will have to miss the service of captain Sergio Ramos who collected a red card in the first leg against Manchester City.
