Ex-governor Yari accused of diverting exotic cars to friends and family

Zamfara state ex-governor, Abdulaziz Yari has been accused of diverting 100 exotic cars to cronies while in office. The accusation was made by the Zamfara state government's projects verification committee which submitted its interim report to Governor Bello Matawalle on Tuesday, February 11.

According to the committee, the cars worth N8.4billion were distributed to the former governor's family and friends. According to the report, over 1,000 vehicles belonging to the state government, representing 66% of its total vehicles, could not be accounted for after Yari’s exit from Government House, Gusau. Some Nigerians have in the past called for the prosecution of Yari via social media. Olu Alayanja wrote: Yari is one of the most corrupt governors in Nigeria. He never performed when he was d governor of Zamfara. I hope the present governor oiled machinery to jail him for corruption. Faylom Kajuru wrote: Dear EFCC, your effort to make us believe that truly you are fighting fraud, corruption and embezzlement of public funds will be considered when you parade Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governor Umar Ganduje and Former Governor Yari of Zamfara. Isyaku Barau wrote: They claim they are fighting corruption; we were all witnesses to how EFCC disgracefully paraded Ramalan Yero and how they mistreated Fayose on the very day he left office as a governor. But now former governor Yari of Zamfara state and former governor Abubakar of Bauchi state are enjoying themselves in the corridors of power at Abuja, in spite of all the strong allegations of monumental corruption against them, the EFCC is lame and deaf-mute to act. Demola wrote: I honestly hope that Yari is prosecuted for the massive corruption allegedly perpetrated by him. Especially the very public allegations of using Zamfara's bailout funds to build a hotel in Lagos. Truly he's very useless. He leaves d state worse than he met it. Meanwhile, Governor Matawalle is set to be bestowed with the prestigious award “Security Icon of the Year” for 2019 by a media outfit. Speaking on the award, the organisers said since taking over the helm of affairs, Matawalle earned wave review for his unorthodox, progressive and charismatic leadership style, especially in the area of security.
