Senatorial rerun: Call Akwa Ibom state REC to order, APC tells INEC

The deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Yekini Nabena has accused the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Akwa Ibom, Mr Mike Igini of working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Nabena who made the allegation while speaking to journalists on Thursday, January 23 in Abuja, stated that Igini's past antecedents have witnessed him compromise, manipulate and swing the 2019 elections conducted in the state in favour of the PDP. His words: “The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Akwa Ibom state, Mr Mike Igini despite proven incidents of bias against the APC continues to preside over INEC in Akwa Ibom state. He further accused Igini of bringing his blood relation who is serving as an electoral officer in Anambra state to rig the election in favour of the PDP. “Igini is personally campaigning for PDP, abandoned 31 Electoral Officers (EOs) and brought a cousin, Mr Vincent Ogene from Delta state who is an EO in Anambra state and who did well for PDP in 2019 elections in Anambra state. “INEC must urgently call its Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Mike Igini to order and stop this imminent electoral robbery,” he concluded. Igini has been in the eye of the storm since he assumed his role as the REC of INEC in Akwa Ibom state. His presence in Akwa Ibom state, however, continues to infuriate the APC as the party has accused him severally of bias. Before his appointment as an INEC official, Igini was a well-known lawyer and public analyst/commentator. APC supporter, Onyemaechi Chigbu, wrote about Igni on social media in 2019: He has very strong sympathy for and publicly displayed his hatred for APC. Openly ordering election results manipulation against APC. Mike Igini, REC Akwa Ibom should be sacked immediately. He's a biased electoral umpire. Another APC supporter wrote: Mike Igini and Festus Okoye have no business working as INEC commissioner and REC respectively, both of them through their utterances and actions have never hidden why their allegiance is....they are both low key PDP members. Onah Chijioke: The REC in Akwa Ibom state ( Barr Mike Igini ) has been compromised by PDP and Akwa Ibom government.
