Lagos-Ibadan expressway : Lady claims police and area boys are taking advantage of road repair

Recently the Nigerian government started reconstruction on some major in Lagos and some routes leading in and out of Lagos state. The Lagos-Ibadan expressway is one of the roads being repair. Due to the fact that the road is used daily by people going and coming from work on the mainland and Island, the road has been congested with traffic, leaving many Lagosians stressed. A lady identified as Fayokemi Akinfemiwa, who takes the road to and fro on daily basis has accused police officers and area boys of extorting people that want to take alternative routes instead of taking the heavy traffic route. Akinfemiwa backed her claims up with video evidence shared on her Instagram page. The video showed the lady in a car with a couple of others heading to work. They were stopped by some area boys and a policeman holding a gun. In the video, they were seen arguing with the men and one of them was heard shouting that the alternative route is a federal road and they should not be stopped or extorted. According to her, the policeman and the area boys wanted them to pay N100 before they would be allowed to drive through the route.

We know the government combined with Julius Berger are trying to make Lagos-Ibadan expressway better for use... but the suffering for us that stay at the surrounding and work on the island is too much... leaving your house as early as 5am and still get to work at 9am or sometimes 10am... We need alternative roads to be done. The police together with the area boys decided to be getting N100 from each car before we can be allowed to pass the alternative road which is very bad but because we all want to get to work we had no choice than to pass.... please we need the alternative roads to be passable pending the time our roads is fixed to reduce the congestion on the expressway... Please we need help.. people are losing jobs cause they get to the office late.... @instablog9ja @pulsenigeria247 @bankywellington @tundeednut @olorisupergal @krakstv @adesuaetomi @funkejenifaakindele @nigeriapoliceforce @profosinbajo
