Valverde apologises to Atletico Madrid striker after super cup win

Real Madrid midfielder, Federico Valverde, has apologized to Atletico Madrid striker, Alvaro Morata, after Los Blancos won the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday. Atleti almost won the game in extra time, but Valverde hacked down Morata as he raced through on goal with five minutes left. Dani Carvajal, Rodrygo Goes and Luka Modric scored for Real in the shootout, while Atletico’s Saul Niguez hit the post and Thomas Paratey saw his effort saved by Thibaut Courtois. Los Blancos captain, Sergio Ramos, made no mistake with his kick to hand Zinedine Zidane his 10th trophy as manager of the club. I’ve apologised to Morata,” Valverde said in a news conference. It’s not good to do what I did, but I didn’t have any other option. I’m happy to win the trophy, but I’m left feeling bad about that. Madrid coach Zidane said: “At the end of the day, he did what he had to do. It’s a bad foul, but he had to make it at that moment. He did well. What’s important is that he’s apologised to Morata because they know each other well.
