Gernot Rohr misses out as CAF releases 5-man list for best coach award

Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles head coach, has missed out on Confederation of African Football (CAF) five-man list of nominees for best coach of the year award in Africa.
The German tactician guided Nigeria to enviable third place glory at the African Cup of Nation (AFCON) 2019 in Egypt. But in the list announced by the football-regulating body in Africa, the 66-year-old missed out to Senegal's head coach Aliou Cisse and Zermalek's Cristian Gross. Other nominees on the list include, Djamel Bemaldi of Algeria, Tunisia's Moïn Chaâbani and Madagascar's Nicolas Dupuis. One of Cisse and Bemaldi appears to likely clinch the award with the former guided Senegal to partly impressive World Cup outing before taking them to AFCON 2019 final where they lost to Algeria. Djamel Bemaldi nurtured Mahrez-led Algeria national team from underdogs to African champions with a glorious exploit at AFCON tournament in Egypt where they won the coveted trophy in style. Meanwhile, Thomas Dennerby was shortlisted for CAF Women's Coach of the Year award. The Super Falcons coach was nominated alongside Cameroon's Alan Djeumfa, Zambia's Bruce Mwape and others.
