Akpabio, APC threaten to boycott rerun election

Senator Godswill Akpabio, through his campaign director general, Chris Akpan, has said that he will not participate in the rerun election between him and Senator Chris Ekpenyong for the Akwa Ibom Northwest senatorial district.
According to Akpan, He said that his principal and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has no confidence in the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mike Igini, This Day reports. Akpan claimed that the election will be fraught with bias and fraudulent activities if Igini will be at the hem of affairs during the forthcoming election. He said: “What will be the need for Akpabio to participate in the rerun with Igini as the state INEC REC? Of course he (Igini) is going to repeat the fraud he committed in the last election. “We insist that there must be a level playing ground for everybody. With Igini the ground will not be level so we won’t participate." Akpan who spoke with journalist on Wednesday, November 13, said that this is both his decision and that of Senator Akpabio. He therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the REC from the state or else there will be rigging in the poll. Meanwhile Akpabio was among one of the ministers selected by President Muhammadu Buhari under his second tenure in office to help run his government. Akpabio was given the portfolio to serve as the minister of the minstry of Niger Delta affairs.
