Two feared dead, others injured as gas cylinder explodes in delta community

Two persons have been reported dead, with five others seriously injured as a gas cylinder exploded along Jigbale Street off Alegbo Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. The incident razed down an entire building, and rendered all the occupants homeless.
        According to reports, The dead victims were teenagers who were said to be asleep when the incident occurred at night. It was learnt that they died before help could come their way. A resident, who refused to disclose his name, said the explosion occurred in one of the flats in the compound. He said,”I heard a loud noise believed to be gas cylinder explosion from one of the apartments.” Properties worth several millions of Naira, including certificates and other documents were destroyed by the fire. Three sympathizers, who dashed into the scene to help were also injured in the process of rescuing some of the occupants trapped in the building. One of the victims, Mr. Henry James said he lost all he had worked for in his life to the fire. He stressed that only the clothes he wore at the time the incident occurred was left with him. l thank God that l survived. The fire burnt everything that l have in the house. This is me ooooooo,” he lamented. James appealed to members of the public to support him and other victims of the incident to start life afresh. It was gathered that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary in the area. The injured victims are also receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital within the Effurun metropolis. The Delta State Police Commissioner, Adeyinka Adeleke is yet to respond to text messages for confirmation of the report.
