FG incurs 150bn judgement debt

The minister of justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has said that the Nigerian government has incurred a N150 billion judgement debt.
According to reports, Malami said the beneficiaries of the debt so far incurred are currently mounting pressure on the Federal Government through the ministry to pay the money. Speaking during the defence of the 2020 budget at the meeting with the Senate Committee on the judiciary, human rights and legal matters said over N150 billion debt has remained unpaid. Malami said the ministry in 2017 disbursed N10 billion as appropriated for the debt. “As it stands, the sum of over N150bn remains unpaid, prompting beneficiaries of this sum to keep mounting pressure on the ministry,” Malami said. He also called for a Senate intervention by approving N30 billion annual which would serve as payment for the long-standing debt.
