Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech made his ice hockey debut for Guildford Phoenix in their victory over Swindon Wildcats on Sunday, October 13.

The 37-year-old, who drew the curtains on his 20-year career with a 4-1 defeat to the Blues in the final of Europa League earlier this year was in goal for the reserve team of the Guildford Flames. Cech however did not stay long before announcing himself in the game after putting up a superb display to save two penalties which guided his side to victory in the game. Both teams played 2-2 during open play and needed penalties to decide which of the two teams would emerge winner at the end of it all.The former Czech Republic shot stopper stopped two crucial penalties from Wildcats and helped secure a big win for his side. His heroic performances earned him his first ever man of the match award, with many more expected to come for the one-time Champions League winner.
Another major highlight of the game was when Cech wore a helmet which has the two Premier League clubs he ever played for Arsenal and Chelsea crested on it. It would be recalled that the retired football goalkeeper was appointed Chelsea's technical and performance advisor for Chelsea in June. He however said ahead of his debut that he was "delighted to have the opportunity to play with the Phoenix."
