How 200 level CRUTECH student drowned in hotel swimming pool

A 200 Level student, identified as Ogbe Dominic (alias Pogba) from the Department of Guidance and Counselling, Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH) has drowned in a swimming pool in Calabar.
Findings revealed occurred on Friday when the victim was competing with other students in a swimming competition in a popular swimming pool. An eyewitness who claimed to be a colleague of the victim and pleaded anonymity alleged that the deceased student alongside his colleagues from both CRUTECH and the University of Calabar, (UNICAL) were having a pool party on Friday evening at Jacaranda Suites, along Atimbo area of Calabar Municipality, when he drowned to death. According to the eyewitness, the deceased defeated his opponent from UNICAL in a swimming competition and was nowhere to be found after the competition, until he was later spotted by the Master of Ceremony (MC) anchoring the pool party. We just finished swimming and everybody came out of the pool but we couldn’t find Pogba. We waited for a few minutes until the MC noticed him underneath the water. All attempts to resuscitate him was in vain as he was vomiting blood, garri and groundnut from his mouth while tears rolled down his eyes, the witness said.
Dominic was later confirmed Dead on Arrival (DoA) by doctors at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH” the eyewitness stated. Ogbe Dominic (the deceased) hails from Obudu local government area of the State and was a 200 level student of the Department of Guidance & Counselling, Faculty of Education, CRUTECH. When the press visited the hotel on Sunday, the atmosphere was unusual and some people were seen in groups discussing the incident even as the management declined comments. This is the second time a student has drowned in Jacaranda Suites’ pool. First, it was a student of UNICAL, the only son of his parents” a source hinted. Interestingly, when DAILY POST contacted the Public Relations Officer of CRUTECH, Onen E. Onen on Monday, he confirmed the development to the press, I have been updated on the incident by the CSO, give me some time to get the mandate from the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Akon Joshua before I can speak on the issue with you.
