Madonnna University: Reps urge school to release former students’ transcripts

Finally, the House of Representatives through its Committee on Public Petitions, Friday urged the National Universities Commission (NUC) and authorities of Madonna University to release the transcripts of its former students to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State. Name of the students is Okoye Ifeanyi Stanley and Ga-Lim Aondofa Lord.
This development became necessary as it was learnt that the affected students failed to complete their academic activities and, were not eligible to be issued with certificates. It would be recalled that the former students had petitioned the lower chamber against the University authorities seeking the restoration of their allegedly breached fundamental human rights as they were expelled on allegations of cultism and other vices. But the resolution of the house followed the report of the National University Commission, NUC, submitted by the representative of Executive Secretary and Director, Mr. Chris Maiyaki. Part of the report stated, that the two former students have not completed their course work as alleged and, therefore, not qualified to be issued Madonna University Certificates. That Stanley’s academic records showed that he attempted 400 level courses in the Department of Civil Engineering but failed fourteen courses. That Ifeanyi was yet to proceed to the 500 level where he will be expected to register fifteen 500 level courses. That Ifeanyi has a total of twenty-nine courses to register and pass before possible graduation.”
Similarly, Aondofa Lord, the University records also showed that he had a total of twelve failed courses he must remedy before a possible graduation. However, the Vice-Chancellor of Madonna University, Nigeria, Prof. Chuks Ezedum has assured the committee of his readiness to issue the two former students’ their transcripts within two weeks. The committee also cautioned parents against encouraging their children on any wrongdoing to be able to have a wholesome society. Following the accepted resolution by the parties, Chairman of the committee, Hon. Uzoma-Nkem Abonta had declared the petition dissolved and closed.
