Justice Taura has sentenced Datti Buba to five years imprisonment for the offence of criminal conspiracy and ten-year imprisonment for Kidnapping and was also sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide.
The two other suspects who were arrested for allegedly having hand in the kidnapping and killing of innocent boys were discharged for lack of evidence to justify Datti Buba’s claim that they committed the offence together. Speaking with the press after the court ruling, the convict Datti Buba said he and his colleagues from Taraba kidnapped the boys and requested the ransom of five million Naira. He said they decided to kill their victims for their relative’s failure to provide the amount they demanded as ransom and in good time. Datti said the victims’ relatives were able to raise only N3,350m and they decided to kill them after collecting the ransom. He said out of the money collected, he only benefited ten thousand Naira only because his colleagues fled to Taraba immediately after collecting the ransom.
