Dokpesi: Presidency speaks on Buhari using EFCC to witch-hunt opposition

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has reacted to claim by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, that the president was witch-hunting opposition.
HURIWA had yesterday alleged that Buhari was using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to witch-hunt prominent members of the opposition. The rights group made the claim while condemning Buhari for allegedly using security agencies and the Ministry of Federal Capital Territory to demolish a section of African Independent Television, AIT, building in Abuja. AIT is owned by Chief Raymond Dokpesi, a known chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Against this backdrop, the body warned that Nigeria would be worse off if Buhari was allowed to run his purported tyrannical government. HURIWA urged Nigerians to resist all forms of tyranny by the Buhari government. Reacting to the allegation, Onochie described HURIWA’s claim as a blackmail. In a tweet, Onochie charged EFCC to bravely and courageously arrest looters. She wrote: “The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has claimed that Pres. @MBuhari was using security agencies, especially EFCC, to witch-hunt members of the opposition. Me: This is nothing short of blackmail. @officialEFCC must BRAVELY and COURAGEOUSLY Arrest all looters.
