Keyan Final Year Medical Student Hacked To Death By Her Alleged Lover.

There was a massive protest yesterday after a sixth-year medical student was attacked and killed outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya. New details have emerged indicating slain Moi University medical student Ivy Wangechi was in a relationship with her killer, Naftali Njahi Kinuthia, but the two had parted ways before the gruesome murder. According to the suspect’s mother, Nancy Kinuthia, the two were dating even before the student joined school and the man got a job.
According to a report, Kinuthia said she never met the deceased but her son had shown her several photos on his phone and he had even planned to marry the lady. They had been in a relationship even before my son got a job and the woman joined school. He even wanted to marry her, but it seems they began having issues,” Kinuthia said. “I have never met the lady, but he used to show me her photos on phone… but recently, he came to me saying they had parted ways, a move which I told him was in the right direction because of their relationship issues,” added the assailant’s mother. She said her son had not shown any signs of depression or being temperamental to an extent of killing someone and their family was still in shock. It is so unusual of him because he cannot do such an act. What perturbs me is that he did not share with anyone about his trip to Eldoret, yet we were with him yesterday in Nairobi at 8pm and he had not closed shop at a business where he works,” she said after the attack. Kinuthia further said the two might have tried to work out their differences with no success. He is my firstborn son and he has been working hard to earn a living. I am yet to come to terms with what he did. His father and uncle are on their way to Eldoret to piece up details of the incident,” she added.
The 29-year-old who works for a betting firm is said to have travelled all the way from Thika to Eldoret in his car which he parked next to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) before proceeding to town on a boda boda where he bought an axe and knife. When Wangechi finished her morning rounds in the wards, she left alongside her friends. It was then the suspect approached her and cut her on the neck using a knife.
