Story of woman who delivers twin babies one month after birthing premature baby.

The story of a Bangladeshi woman has shocked virtually everyone who has so far heard it. Arifa Sultana, the lady in question, gave birth to twins nearly one month after delivering a premature baby boy. This strange event has caused quite a stir amongst many. Arifa Sultana who is 20 years old gave birth to a baby boy towards the end of February but just after 26 days of delivery, she was rushed back to the hospital after she said she was experiencing pains in her stomach. According to BBC, after an ultrasound, it was discovered that she was still pregnant with twins in a second uterus. In light of this, the doctors had to perform an emergency Caesarean. Gratefully, the twins were found to be healthy and were discharged with no complications. At the Khulna Medical College Hospital in Khulna district, the doctors who attended to Sultana said they were shocked and extremely surprised.
Dr. Sheila Poddar, the gynaecologist in attendance, had this to say, When the patient came in we performed an ultrasound on her and found there were twin babies. We were very shocked and surprised. I have never observed something like this before. It was said that Sultana and her husband were too poor to have an ultrasound done. This might have been the reason for what happened to the woman. They had no idea that they had two babies following the birth of their premature child. Eventually, the woman gave birth to a male and a female in her second delivery.
Sheila Poddar was very grateful that the operation went well and the babies survived. "The babies and her are all healthy. I am very, very happy that everything went well, Dr Poddar said. The medical term for having a second uterus is called uterus didelphys. According to Dr Christopher Ng of the GynaeMD Clinic in Singapore, the condition is not rare as most people might think it is. He also had this to say: If you go for a scan beforehand it would be very obvious to see two sets of uteruses. But obviously they are from a more rural area [and might not have access to ultrasound scanning]. It's likely that three eggs ovulated and were fertilised at the same time during her fertile period which resulted in three embryos.
