9 killed, 47 injured in train crash at Ankara's main station

Several people have been killed in the Turkish capital Ankara, when a high-speed train collided with another train at the capital's main station.

Turkey's transport minister says at least nine people died and 47 injured as a result of the crash, which occurred at about 06:30 local time (03:30 GMT).

The train driver is said to be among those killed, while 3 of the injured are in serious conditions

Local officials said the high-speed train -- travelling from Ankara to the city of Konya in western Turkey -- also crashed into an overpass.

Images from the scene showed emergency services working to search and rescue people from badly damaged carriages at the Marsandiz railway station, under snowy conditions.
