Pope Francis removes scandal-hit cardinals from his group of advisers.

Two prominent cardinals have been, faces allegations of sexual abuse — accusations have been removed as advisers to Pope Francis, the Vatican announced on Wednesday.

Cardinal George Pell of Australia and Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz of Chile were removed from the Council of Cardinals, an international advice body set up by Francis himself known as C-9.

Pell is still the Vatican's economy minister but has taken an indefinite leave of absence to defend himself against charges of historical child sexual offences in Australia.

Errazuriz is accused of ignoring and covering up reports of abuse in Chile.

Vatican spokesman Greg Burke said that Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was also leaving the C-9 group.
