Weekend of heavy snow storm leaves 310,000+ without power in US

More than 130,000 persons have been left without power, after a powerful snow storm hit the Southeastern parts of the United States over the weekend.
On Sunday, hundreds of flight was cancelled due to the winter storm, with most of North Carolina, Virginia and southern West Virginia covered with more than 30cm (1Ft) of snow through the weekend. Winter storm warning still remains in effect in those states.
Authorities says there have been many reports of spinouts and collisions due to motorways been covered with snow, sleet and freezing rain. Divers are reportedly searching for the driver of an 18-wheeler found in a river in Kinston, North Carolina on Sunday morning while another driver has been reported killed when a tree fell on his car just outside the city of Charlotte.
Poweroutage.us says over 310,000 customers in North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia on were without power as at Sunday evening.
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said on Sunday that the state of emergency would remain in effect and that the North Carolina National Guard had been activated to help with the response.
In South Carolina, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division said snow gave way to sleet and rain as temperatures hovered around freezing, through Twitter.
