DR Congo Ebola Outbreak: New daily record as 13 new cases confirmed

DR Congo's health ministry has confirmed thirteen new cases of Ebola in the northeastern part of the country. This figure represents the highest daily count since the beginning of this latest outbreak in July.

A health ministry spokesperson, Jessica Ilunga, while commenting on the data published in its daily bulletin , said "it's pretty exceptional".

The number of new cases have rapidly increased in the past month. Experts from an emergency committee of the World Health Organisation said efforts to control the outbreak -which has faced significant problems due to attacks by armed groups in the region- must be stepped up.

The situation which is the worst in Congo's history, having infected over 380 people, killing two-thirds of them, would likely worsen if response keeps being hampered.
