California Wildfire: 63 confirmed death so far, missing people rise to 631

The number of dead from the California wildfire by local authorities have risen to 63, while the list of missing person has doubled to more than 600 from Thursday figure of 300.

The increase has been a direct result of investigators thoroughly cross-checking their information, including emergency calls made since the Camp Fire started on 8 November, according to Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea.

"I want you to understand that the chaos we were dealing with was extraordinary," Mr Honea said, stressing the actual number of those missing is still unknown.

"If you look at that list and see your name, or the name of a friend or loved one, please call to let us know," Mr Honea appealed to the public.

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit California on Saturday to meet those affected and see the damage done by the fires firsthand.
