Feeding Zakzaky costs FG N3.5 million monthly claims Lai Mohammed, Nigerians react

There's been an outrage among Nigerians in the social media community following the release of a video showing Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, telling reporters, that the Federal Government spends N3.5 million monthly just for the feeding of detained leader if the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim el-Zakzaky.

The comments seems to have been made in an off-the-record moment, as the minister could be heard telling the reporters gathered, he was giving the information to serve as background to their reports.

However, the video bearing the watermark of online television, OakTV, found its way on to Youtube and has since gone viral.

The minister could also heard saying there was no basis for comparison between the situation of el-Zakzaky and what happened to the late leader of Boko Haram, Yusuf.

He explained that the government kept the shiites' leader in a building belonging to the Department of State Services.

"It costs the government about N3.5m every month to feed him," the minister declared.

"So please, we don't want to inflame passion. The issue is a very sensitive matter. But that is the situation,"  he added giving justification on why he volunteered the information off the record.
