Justice For Ochanya

 13 year old, Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbaje, a J.S.S 1 student of Federal Government Girls' College, Gboko battled Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) and other health complications which later resulted to her death, at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi after being allegedly severely abused by one Andrew Ogbuja, Head of Department, Catering and Hotel Management at the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Benue State, and his son, Victor Inalegwu Ogbuja, a final year student of Animal Production at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

According to reports, The duo had consistently molested little Ochanya since she was 9. The First Information Report (FIR), indicated that the complainant, Mrs Abah told the police that sometimes in February 2018, when her daughter, Elizabeth, was sick and admitted at FMC Makurdi, she told her that, when she was staying with her cousin sister, Felicia Ogbuja, between 2013 and 2015, the son of the same cousin sister by name Victor Ogbuja, had canal knowledge of her.

Her family and other well meaning Nigerians, including human rights activists, are calling on the police and judiciary to ensure that Mr. Andrew Ogbuja and his son, Victor Inalegwu Ogbuja, are brought to book.
 Ochanya's father, speaking to Punch in qoute:

"My daughter died on Wednesday at the Otukpo General Hospital. Her corpse has been brought to Makurdi for autopsy. We are awaiting the autopsy report. She was admitted to the Federal Medical Centre in Makurdi in February 2018 when she could not walk due to anal-related infections. She was bedridden for two months at the hospital. They ran a test on her and it was discovered that she had been sexually abused.

"The lecturer was remanded but we did not know how he left the prison. The police prosecutor said he was not aware of the bail. At the last adjournment, September 24, 2018 when we wanted to inform the court about the development, it did not sit. His son is still at large, but the police said they were making efforts to arrest him.

"What the family wants is justice. We are calling on the Commissioner of Police in the state, the state government and well-meaning Nigerians to do everything within their powers to bring perpetrators of this despicable act to justice That is the only way we can bring closure to the case and give the late Elizabeth her well-deserved rest. We have reported her death to the police."

Ochanya's death, which occurred on the 18th of October has since sparked outrage among Nigerians as the hashtag #JusticeForOchanya is seen trending across social media.
