UN sets aside $2.1 billion grant for Nigeria's Internally Displaced Persons

The humanitarian crisis in the northeast part of the country is to receive $2.1 billion grant from the United Nations.
Speaking to journalist in the capital city Abuja, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock, said the grant is meant to benefit victims of the insurgency to enable them rebuild their lives.
Mark Lowcock said that following a visit to some high-risk locations around Borno and the Lake Chad region, alongside the UNDP Administrator, Ashim Steiner, "the UN remains very committed to working with the government to meet humanitarian needs."
Mr. Lowcock added that out of the $2.1 billion the international community has pledged that $300 million would be channelled towards meeting immediate humanitarian needs.
This he said is aimed at ensuring a quick recovery process among displaced persons who are now returning home to pick up the pieces of their lives.
