Gunman opens fire at bank in Cincinnati, leaving multiple casualties

Multiple people are believed to have been shot after a gunman opened fire at a bank in Cincinnati with people declaring it an ‘active shooter' situation.

One victim was treated at the scene of the Fifth and Third Bank on Fountain Square, Walnut Street, police said.

Another was reportedly found inside a nearby ice cream shop.

The Cincinnati Police Department confirmed it is ‘investigating active shooter/officer involved shooting incident at Fifth Third Bank at 511 Walnut Street in lobby and loading dock'.

A witness to the shooting said there were at least three people injured in the shooting.

Leonard Cain, who said he heard up to 15 gunshots, was walking into the bank when someone alerted him of the shooting.

He said a woman was also walking into the bank and people tried to get her attention but she had headphones on.

‘She walked in the door and he shot her,' the witness told Cincinnati newspaper The Enquirer.

Kevin Grasha, a reporter with The Enquirer said the scene is now secure with reports of two fatalities and several people with critical gunshot wounds.

Reports from the city said it wasn't clear immediately if the shooter was one of those injured.

Streets around the building at the city's Fountain Square have been closed and police have since tweeted the surrounding area ‘remains on lockdown' until further notice.
