Emirates' Dubai to New York plane quarantined at JFK after passengers ‘fall ill' mid-flight

An Emirates flight from Dubai to New York has been quarantined after dozens of passengers became ill during the flight.

Emirates Flight 203 carrying about 500 passengers landed shortly after 9am EDT (1pm GMT) today following concerns that passengers were sick with fevers over 37C.

Port Authority Police and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are currently at the scene checking passengers.

A passenger on board the flight posted an image showing more than a dozen emergency response vehicles waiting outside the plane on the runway.

Larry Coben said they were told on board that people were sick but added that he hadn't seen any sick people himself.

‘All we have been told is that there are some sick passengers and that we need to remain on board,' he said.

The mayor's office confirmed the reports, saying the plane had been quarantined.

A spokeswoman for Emirates said: ‘Emirates can confirm that about 10 passengers on board flight EK203 from Dubai to New York were taken ill.

‘On arrival at JFK, as a precaution, they were immediately checked by local health authorities and those needing medical attention will be attended to.

She said all other passengers would be allowed to leave the plane shortly.
