Ugandan musician-turned-lawmaker charged with treason granted bail

A Ugandan court has granted bail to a former Afropop star-turned-opposition lawmaker Bobi Wine, who is currently facing charges of treason.

The charges stemmed from his alleged role in an attack on President Yoweri Museveni's convoy.

Bobi Wine -real name is Robert Kyagulanyi- was last week release from military detention before been immediately re-arrested. His allies accuses the government of intentional targeting the staunch critic of the president.

In his ruling, judge Stephen Mubiru said the lawmaker did not constitute a flight risk, and could keep his passport.

The lawmaker who was elected into the parliament last year walked into the courtroom with crutches as allegations he was assaulted while in detention is making rounds in the country's news circle.

A newly elected lawmaker, Kassiano Wadri was also granted bail during the court proceedings which was televised.
